As the warm fall Santa Ana winds blow through through the mountains of San Diego, a light windshirt is a hikers best friend.  Cutting the wind and providing a minimal amount of warmth is all that is usually needed throughout the fall.  I had the opportunity to use the Outdoor Research Anomaly Windshirt in a variety of different condition, and have been impressed with what I found.

OR Anomaly Windshirt

The Amonaly Windshirt is a minimalist garment, trading in extraneous features for a reduction in weight and bulk.  The 16 oz. Anomaly is about as simple as they come, is one chest pocket (doubles as a stuff sack), a  dual drawstring hem and  velcro adjusters on the sleeves.  The exterior is made from a durable feeling 30D ripstop nylon, while the insides tricot lining feels very plush.  While it is not the lightest windshirt out there, the soft lining is worth the additional ounces.

The Anomly Windshirt is one of those jackets that can go anywhere.  It is as functional in town as it is in the backcountry.  The Anomaly Winshirt has seen me through damp summer mornings jogging on the beach, and as well as foggy drippy days that occasionally punctuate the fine weather in San Diego.  The jacket has been worm, crumpled up, stuffed in a pack, ripped back out of the pack only to be stuffed away again.  The jacket looks as good today as when it arrived.

The Outdoor Research Anomaly Windshirt is one piece of gear that just works.  No extra bells and whistles, just a good solid design that blocks the wind, cuts the chill, and will keep you dry in a pinch
